Stone Carving
BackThe School recently welcomed Henry and Tamsin from Grays Stone Carving Studio, who had earlier this year carved a new Breadstone in the Great Wishford Churchyard Wall. Eighteen children were all up for "Have a go at Stone Carving". After an initial safety brief on how to use the chisel and the dummie (a mason's hammer) they were off carving on a fresh piece of stone, the very same as that in Salisbury Cathedral and the Breadstone. It tested a number of skills, concentration, patience and eye for detail. Everyone really enjoyed the chance to create something with their hands and as the photos show, they did very well. The final group were so keen to take part they sprinted the length of the playground to the workshop to get started.
A huge thanks to Tamsin and Henry for providing a new creative experience and thoroughly worthwhile practical exercise for the children. It offered another opportunity for our pupils to discover new practical and creative skills. Our thanks to the donor Jamie Melville, our chair of governors and for Grays for putting some Bursary towards the activity. We are all most grateful.
